So I've been doing this for almost 3 years and have been taking in house call for nearly 9 years. One thing never changes. When you have some down time, you need to sleep. Of course this is nearly impossible in the hospital with a unit full of sick babies. You're always worrying, "is that baby getting sicker... does that mother really understand how grave the situation is... should I eat a Twix bar to help get to sleep."
I've tried nearly every method to induce sleep in the hospital. I've counted sheep, I've placed an "ambient noise making machine" at the bedside, I even tried reading "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau all leaving me tossing about the "call cot". However, the one thing that I've found that does the trick : binaurnal beats soundtracks played through headphones. Trust me, this will absolutely put you out like a light... you'll sleep like before you had kids... you'll sleep like you've taken NiQuel... you sleep like... a baby!
Try one of these links that sell Binaural beat tracks which can help you sleep... many have money-back guarantees!

That being said, tonight is my night off. So I'll be sleeping at home with wife, 3 week old daughter, and the dog. Believe it or not, I will sleep the sleep of the dead (without binaural beats :)
